Sedum

I was a little surprised to see this sedum. I usually think of succulents as being warm-climate plants, but this sedum is cold hardy. It was growing on both sides of a headstone. This discovery led me to do some reading, and I've learned that some sedum are cold hardy to 30 below zero!

  1. I think that sedum is something we're going to see a lot of in the landscape, especially the creeping types (clumps, like this one above, tend to stay put better). I tossed a handful into a couple of places in my garden 6 years ago, and am finding it everywhere now. It roots from the tiniest piece of stem...

  2. Succulents never cease to amaze me - they're a resourceful bunch.

  3. Ever see any woodchucks there? First sighting for me this past weekend.

  4. I did see a woodchuck once! It ran so fast past me that I could barely tell what it was.
