Dawn Redwood

The dawn redwood, or Metasequoia, is dropping its leaves.

  1. This photo was actually taken about two years ago. I didn't quite sync it up with this year's leaf-drop situation: the day after I posted it I saw a dawn redwood completely covered in rusty leaves.

And I believe those are male cones hanging in the branches. They usually start getting this size in January or February.

    Fail ;)

  2. Roar! This is still the best tree ever!
